Twenty documentaries in competition at 25 Mediterranean Film Festival
Twenty documentary films – ten feature length and ten short documentaries, selected by Zdravko Mustać, the festival selector, are in the competition programme of the jubilee edition of the Mediterranean Film Festival that is taking place from 8 to 12 October in Široki Brijeg.
Some of the twenty selected documentaries are having their premiere screening in Široki Brijeg, and this program is also featuring films that have already won awards at world’s major festivals.
“Once again we are offered a bunch of investigative and sophisticated forms of confessions of the film heroes within the scope of the manuscripts close to them. Our filmmakers are following the recent world events. They are walking on everyday roads, and following the turbulent events around us. They are entering into the bowels of wars, aggressions, conflicts and destructions. The filmmakers are dealing with all kinds of political and social deviations. They are bringing us their notions of elusive film justice”, the festival selector said.
Mustać states that in this year's competition program, among other things, the filmmakers also take historical turmoil and gently combine it with the present, creating an image of an unbroken thread of tragedy and pessimism on heavenly screens.
“The filmmakers like to tackle the intimate dramas as well. Sometimes they offer us autobiographical views, and sometimes they just witness someone else’s or distant, but painful and traumatic survival”, he said about the festival competition program and added that the selector, as always, decided on the most convincing and the most consistent ones.
Two three-member international juries are going to decide on the awards for the best feature documentary in the Mediterranean, the Festival “Grand Prix” and the “Best Short” in the short film category. The third prize is awarded by the festival audience. The Mediterranean Film Festival is going to award the ‘Best Camera’ award, which is sponsored by the Association of Cinematographers in Bosnia and Herzegovina (ASBH), whose members are going to choose the best ones.
