22. MFF is opened: Heart of the film is in Herzegovina
''There are numerous challenges that we faced with in the past two years, but I am happy that we have succeeded and we are here, opening the 22nd edition of the Mediterranean Film Festival'', Topić said, on Wednesday, August 25 in the Open Air Cinema in the center of Široki Brijeg.
Topić pointed that the organizers put together excellent program with 45 films, and that the screenings in two cinemas are going parallelly with the online screenings for the domestic audiences through digital platform on the festival website.
“Two years ago, I cried on this stage, and my friends told me that this was the best advertisement for the festival”, the festival director said joking and thanked the audience and the festival sponsors, without whose support all this wouldn’t be possible.
Besides the films, MFF has been taking care of young people and the international film school is a part of the festival this year also, in which high school students from several countries, together with their mentors from the USA, work on creation of a documentary and a feature film.
“They say that the hearth of film is in Hollywood, but for us the hearth of film is here in Herzegovina”, Lucy Eagleson said, a director and media educator who has been the leader of the film school at this festival for the past ten years.
Together with her colleague Tyler Gunderson she thanked the organizers and all those who ‘welcome and accept them during their stay in Herzegovina as their people’.
“We really feel that way. What’s the most important thing for us here is love, and we have assured of that during the past days on the set, where we function as a family” she said and added that the most important thing for the young people here is that they have a space for creativity so they can show their stories, and this is what the film school offers them.
Denis Zubac also addressed the audience at the Open Cinema in the center of Široki Brijeg, on behalf of the sponsor HT Eronet, that has been supporting this festival for more than ten years.
“It is a special honor to be at the center of this event which, every year with its quality, confirms its value on the cultural map of BiH and the region. We know what last year was like and what challenges we faced, so it is a special pleasure tonight to be here and enjoy movies live”, Zubac said.
After the official part of the evening the festival was opened with the screening of awarded documentary ‘The Truffle Hunters’, directed by Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw.
In addition to films from the competition seven films were screened at the Borak cinema on the first day of the festival, in cooperation with the Sarajevo Film Center, the legal successor of the Bosnian cinema archive.
This year's edition of MFF is going to screen 45 films in eight festival programs.
We remind you that the 22nd Mediterranean Film Festival, whose general sponsor is HT Eronet, is taking place from 25 to 28 August in Široki Brijeg.
