'The Truffle Hunters' at the opening and 'Love around the World' for closing of MFF
The 22nd edition of the Mediterranean Film Festival in Široki Brijeg is opening with the documentary film ‘The Truffle Hunters’ directed by Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw.
The film, which premiered at Sundance Festival, presents a group of experienced experts from Italian Piedmont, searchers for the rare and precious white truffles, coveted by the world’s wealthiest chefs and connoisseurs.
This absurdist, meditative documentary offers an insight into the world of the elusive fungi and the rituals of the cunning searchers who are trying to protect them from the greed of the outside world, exposing the magic of the nature in the process.
"While the rich and fashionable culinary world struggles for their prey, they live the lives of humble individuals, in love with their sniffer dogs, cunningly and silently protecting their world from greed," the announcement of the documentary says, that is going to be screened at the opening of the festival on Wednesday, August 25.
Documentary collage ‘Love around the World’, directed by Anđela and Davor Rostuhar, is the film that is closing the Mediterranean Film Festival on Saturday, August 28, in the Open Air Cinema.
The film is a collage of subjective impressions of the people from different geographical locations, economical and political contexts. It follows all the stages of their relationships – from the moment they met or had their first date, through their decision to get married or move in together and their subsequent fights and challenges, all the way to the present moment and their plans for the future.
The Rostuhar couple made the documentary on their one-year trip, during which they visited 33 countries on six continents and interviewed more than 200 people about love.
“From deep within the Amazonian forests and remote villages in the Himalayas to the world’s largest metropolises, this stunning documentary shows us 33 different stories about love and marriage, challenges and struggles, highs and lows, creating one big love story that reminds us how love can never be simple, but at the same time how just a few things on Earth are as simple as love”, the announcement says.
