19/08/2020 Mediterranean film festival
Ready for opening night: We are online and it's going to be great!
“MFF has been through a lot in the past two decades. Now there is a new situation when the festival cannot take place and luckily there are internet platforms through which people can watch our program and thus enable the festival to live", said Tomislav Topić, the director of the Mediterranean Film Festival on the occasion of the opening of the 21st documentary film festival that is taking place from 19 to 22 August.

Topic said that a situation like this one, when the organisers are 'forced' to hold the festival online, would not have been possible fifteen years ago and invited all the film enthusiasts to join the virtual edition of the 21st MFF from their homes. “Although there is regret for festival atmosphere created by people, in this situation we are going online and it is great. We hope you will still enjoy our programme from your homes”, the director of MFF said.

Twenty documentary films compete in the official program - ten feature and ten short documentaries. The festival selector Zdravko Mustać chose excellent works.

“The characteristics of the films submitted to this year’s selection can be clearly defined as the filmmakers ’exclusive interest in contemporary aspirations in their communities. The Mediterranean filmmakers follow the political, economic, social, and existential changes around them. Their films tackle with earthly problems, identity, movements within the basic cell of society - the family, dealing with poverty, disability, refugees, high politics, essential ideas, history and perspectives, and the beauties of the sea air simply given to them by higher powers”, the festival selector Mustać said.

In addition to films from the competition, films from the 'In Focus' programme are also going to be available for the virtual visitors, as well as the masterpieces of B&H cinematography, which are going to be presented in the off-program 'Film Centre Sarajevo'.

The festival producer Robert Bubalo has invited everyone to join us on Wednesday, August 19 at 9 p.m.via digital platform, social media and CMC channel and follow the virtual opening of the 21stMFF.

The films made in the last year's festival workshop MFF School - 'Dvica' and the documentary 'Usput' are going to have their digital premiere, on Wednesday, August 19.

The four festival days will also be an opportunity for surprise films that the MFF will give to its audience. We are also offering some of the best documentary films from previous festivals to film enthusiasts, from Wednesday August 19, in the video library, in cooperation with HT Eronet through the HOME.TV platform.

"We are very pleased that, even in these challenging times, we can hold events that we have strongly supported for years, if not decades. In line with our motto ‘Connection that lasts – Digital company for digital age’, we provide all our current and future users with a set of secure digital services and work on the development of new ones, and to all the users of the HOME.TV platform, this year as well, we are offering films from previous Mediterranean Film Festivals in our video library, so there will certainly be no shortage of film contents', Tomislav Ruk said, Member of the Management Board and Executive Director for Marketing, Sales, Wholesale and Customer Support of HT Eronet.

We remind you that two three-member international juries will decide on the awards for the best feature documentary in the Mediterranean, the Grand Prix of the festival sponsored by HT Eronet, and the Best Short for the best short film sponsored by Podravka.

All the films will be screened through a digital platform on the official festival website www.mff.ba, where you can also find detailed instructions on how to register to watch the films for free.  Note that you will be able to watch the films for four days, from August 19 to 22, at any time.

Enjoy the 21st MFF programme!
