We present complete program of the 16th Mediterranean Film Festival
One of the most important film events in BH and the region, the 16th Mediterranean Film Festival will take place from the 26th to 29th of August in Široki Brijeg. Besides the rich documentary film program, which the Mediterranean Film Festival has the focus on, there will also be interesting films screened for the fans of home production, as well as the Oscar winners, world premieres and the program of animated films from the friend festival NAFF.

The thing that MFF is especially proud of is the cooperation with this year’s Festival partner, the most important world movie network HBO. In cooperation with HBO we will screen the Polish film ‘Deep Love’ within the program HBO Adria. Besides HBO, the 16th MFF is going to make another step forward and that is starting the open air cinema, where, with the support of the Operation Kino, two feature films will be screened.

On Wednesday, August 26th, we are having premiere screenings of the ‘Home Authors’ films’ in the off program, documentaries ‘Austro-Hungarian Military Forts in Mostar’, by Ivo Mikulić, ‘Da Capo’ by Zdenko Jurilj and awarded documentary ‘Untameable Cardinal’ by Ivan and Mirela Cigić.

Spanish film, from the feature documentary competition, ‘The Creator of the Jungle’, directed by Jordi Morato, will be screened on the opening ceremony of the 16th MFF, and beside it three more films from the short documentary competition will be screened on the first festival day. The film from the MFF workshop will be screened on the opening ceremony on the 26th August, which is created in Široki Brijeg by the high school students together with their colleagues, six young students filmmakers from the USA, that have attended this workshop in the past week under the guidance of Lucy Eagleson and Tyler Gunderson.

The festival selector Damir Čučić, selected 17 films out of the record number of 430 applications, ten films in the category of short documentary – up to 30 minutes, and seven films in the category of feature documentary - more than 30 minutes. Besides the competition program, the second and third day of the Festival will be marked by the ‘Open Air Cinema’ program, within which two awarded feature films ‘The Second Mother’ by Anne Muylaert and ‘Wild Tales’ by Damian Szifron, will be screened on the festival square in the very centre of Široki Brijeg.

Along with the cinema in the open air and HBO documentary ‘Deep Love’, by Jan P. Matuszynski, which will be screened on the second day, the third and the fourth day will be marked by animated works from NAFF, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.  The film ‘Oh, My Home’, by Zdenko Jurilj, will have its world premiere within the program of ‘Home Authors’, which will screen five documentaries at the 16th MFF. This is the story that follows evictions from housing in Croatia and dramatic moments of the families that are thrown out on the street. The last from this program is the film ‘Herzegovina’, by Ivo Čolak and Zdenko Jurilj, which will have its premiere on Saturday 29th of August.

International jury will decide on the best films in two categories – the best feature documentary and best short documentary. Besides six members of the jury that will select winners of the 16th Mediterranean Film Festival and award the Grand Prix MFF Projector and the second prize MFF Projector, the audience will traditionally decide on the third award by their votes.

The closing film will be the Oscar awarded documentary ‘Citizenfour’, by Laura Poitras, which will not only show you the danger that the violation of the right to privacy by the government represents, it will make you feel it too.

Along with the great number of films, important part of the Mediterranean Film Festival, besides relaxed atmosphere and a lot of fun, are the film quizzes, workshops, abundant awards and parties that make this Festival unavoidable cultural destination of the regional scene. Welcome to the 16th MFF!
