Besides the official program of documentary films in the competition, a great documentary hit film ‘Citizenfour’, directed by Laura Poitras, will be screened in the off program of the 16th Mediterranean Film Festival that will take place from 26th to 29th August in Široki Brijeg.

This Oscar awarded documentary gives audiences access to filmmaker Laura Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald’s encounters with Edward Snowden in Hong Kong, as he hands over classified documents providing evidence of mass illegal invasions of privacy by the National Security Agency (NSA).


After seeing the film, which not only shows you the dangers of governmental surveillance—it makes you feel them and you will never think the same way about your phone, email, credit card, web browser, or profile, ever again. Along with the documentary about Iraq ‘My Country, My Country’ and the film about Guantanamo ‘The Oath’, ‘Citizenfour’ completes Laura Poitras’ post-9/11 America trilogy. This documentary film will be screened on Saturday, 29th August as the closing film of this year’s Mediterranean Film Festival.

Besides 'Citizenfour', the off program of the the 16th MFF brings ten animated films from the friend festival NAFF and the program of ‘Home authors’, within which we will screen five films from the local film workshop. Also, besides the screenings in the Borak cinema, the Festival prepares ‘Open Air Cinema’ program with the support of Operation Kino, within which two feature films will be screened in the open, in the very centre of Široki Brijeg. MFF proudly presents this year’s Festival partner, the most important world movie network HBO and we will screen the Polish film ‘Deep Love’ directed by Jan P. Matuszynski in cooperation with them.

17 documentaries will be screened in the official competition program, ten in short and seven in feature documentary competition. Six members of the jury of experts will decide on the best films, and the audience will traditionally decide on the third award.
