Besides the official program of documentary films in the competition, feature films from the ‘Open air Cinema’ program, with the support of Operation Kino, and a documentary film realized by HBO will be screened in the off program of the 16th Mediterranean Film Festival that will take place from 26th to 29th August in Široki Brijeg.
Thus, the feature film ‘The Second Mother’, directed by Anne Muylaert, will be screened on the second day of the Festival, Thursday 27th August, in the open air cinema. This is the film that, among a number of prizes, won the audience award in the Panorama program of the Berlin International Film Festival, and was also awarded by the special jury award at the Sundance Festival.
Besides this film, ‘Open Air Cinema’ also brings us the feature film ‘Wild Tales’ directed by Damián Szifron, a candidate for Oscar in the category for the best foreign film and for the Golden Palm in the main competition at Cannes Film Festival. ‘Wild Tales’ will also be screened in the open on Friday, 28th August, at the film square in the centre of Široki Brijeg.
MFF proudly presents this year’s Festival partner, the most important world movie network HBO and we will screen the Polish film ‘Deep Love’ directed by Jan P. Matuszynski in cooperation with them. This documentary, which has won some of the most important world’s film awards and prizes, will be screened on Thursday, 27th August, as a part of the HBO Adria program.
Besides ‘Open Air Cinema’ and ‘HBO Adria’, the off program of the the 16th MFF brings ten animated films from the friend festival NAFF and the program of ‘Home authors’, within which we will screen five films from the local film workshop. 17 documentaries will be screened in the official competition program, ten in short and seven in feature documentary competition. Six members of the jury of experts will decide on the best films, and the audience will traditionally decide on the third award.
