Films from DORF at 15th Mediterranean Film Festival
From Vinkovci, which is the ‘official’ friend town of Široki Brijeg, one friend festival is coming to the 15th MFF. Thus, we shall screen the film works form a unique regional festival of music documentary film DORF in the off program of this year’s Mediterranean Film Festival. We have selected the following from the rich program of DORF:
“The Right Man for Capitalism” – the documentary that presents Bosnian-Herzegovinian musician from Slovenia, poet and writer Damir Avdić. The film that focuses on the war and its consequences at the beginning becomes rebellious critic of capitalism through Avdić’s words. This film won the main award at DORF 2014.
“Punčke” - Music documentary “Punčke” shows 3 young girls from the band of the same name and speaks about their first five years on the scene. As they don’t want to be limited only to one music direction, in their music today Punčke combine various influences and create a different sound as compared to the one at beginning of the band. The audience often describes them as an indie-pop band with admixture of Television, Joy Division, Patti Smith and others.
“Once Upon a Hub” - The movie depicts sad state of the town Vinkovci's central railway passenger station and it is homage to the recently deceased Krsto Papic and to one of his first documentaries, called “The Hub” (1969). This is also a kind of a time travel machine because it shows today’s state of the railway station and the former that was presented in “The Hub”.
“Where Are We Now?” – Documentary film about departure of the band Septica from Vinkovci to Zagreb for the Zlatna koogla awards 2005 follows the cool crew from Vinkovci station, the concert in KSET, to their return to Vinkovci. Frequent guest performances of the band Septice in the cult club KSET had special atmosphere. Whether you like the distinctive sense of humour or not, this film will show you the protagonists from the unique Septica band, that hide behind unusual names, in another light.
