Contemporary photographic creativity is being awarded in the organization of the photography festival Rovinj Photodays for the fifth year in a row. The thing which connects this festival and our Mediterranean Film Festival is grandpa Pavo, more precisely the photo of him that was a kind of trademark of 12th MFF.
Ivan Kelava, the author of this work that you can see on all of the promotional materials of the last year’s MFF, according to the judgment of the international jury composed of successful foreign curators and photography experts, entered the finals of this festival. The photography, that was created accidentally after lunch, during the afternoon rest when the photographer noticed his grandfather shaving himself, competes with two more works in the category of Applied photography. About 8500 photos came in to the tenders invited at the beginning of this year and besides above mentioned the jury selected three finalists in nine more categories.
The works of all the finalists will be included into holdings of the Museum of art and crafts and will have its first presentation at the exhibition within the ending of the festival, from June 1st in Rovinj. This is not the first award for grandpa Pavo. That is to say, the photo had plenty of publications, won several titles “photo of the day” on photo web sites, one prize at a competition, one third place and numerous publications in daily press and photo magazines.
In the cooperation with Ivan Kelava and design studio Smart from Mostar, 12th MFF decided for grandpa Pavo as the conceptual solution of the last year’s campaign because it shows a man from the Mediterranean as it used to be. It’s no wonder that others have also recognized Ivan Kelava’s great eye through this Mediterranean spirit. Congratulations!
