At the beginning of February 2012 one of the biggest cold cyclones in the past 50 years struck the people of Herzegovina that are not used to the Siberian temperatures. In just three days, one meter of snow on the average fell at the area of the municipality of Široki Brijeg. All the access roads to the municipality were blocked in less than 24 hours. The traffic stopped because of the strong wind and snow drifts which were occasionally more than three meters high. The surrounding villages were cut off from the rest of the world for six and more days. The schools, kindergartens were closed, the institutions, companies didn’t work… The funerals were postponed for few days because of the bad snow weather and low temperatures…
The Emergency center of civil defense was established and 24 hour duties. Because of the snow blockage of Mostar, the children were again born in the municipality’s Health care center after a long period.
