Complete program of the 19th Mediterranean Film Festival
The 19th Mediterranean Film Festival – one of the most important events related to film in BiH and the region will be held from August 22 to 25 in Široki Brijeg. The competition program brings 20 documentary films.
The festival selector Zdravko Mustać selected ten films in the category of short documentary – lasting up to 30 minutes, and ten films in feature documentary category – over 30 minutes.The Festival will be opened on 22 August at 9 p.m. with documentary film ‘Sisters’, directed by Zdenko Jurilj, which will be screened within the ‘Home Authors’ program. Besides this one, the film ‘Tobacco Trails’, directed by Mirko Pivčević, will also be screened in the off-program ‘Home Authors’ on August 24. The film from the MFF workshop will be screened at the opening ceremony. It was created in Široki Brijeg by high school students attending these workshops together with their colleagues, young filmmakers from America and mentored by Lucy Eagleson.
In cooperation with Sarajevo Film Centre, the legal successor of the archives of Bosnian-Herzegovinian cinematography, eight films will be screened on the first day of the festival as part of the 'Save the Film Treasure of BiH' action. These are the masterpieces of BH cinematography, which were both the audience’s and the jury’s favourite at festivals all over the world at the time.The cooperation with world’s most important film network HBO also continues with the program Adria, which is screening the documentary ‘When the War Comes’.
MFF Fora, the youngest program of the Mediterranean Film Festival, offers the screenings of the films ‘Coco’ and ‘Leo da Vinci: Mission Mona Lisa’ for the youngest audience.In addition to the powerful documentary program in the competition, the news of this year's festival is the 'In Focus' program, featuring the best cinematographic achievements of the Mediterranean countries from the past year. 'In Focus' is a dynamic and diverse selection of seven films that, in the opinion of the festival's selector, Zdravko Mustać, have already marked the movie year or their time is yet to come.
On Friday, August 24, the feature film ‘Comic Sans’, directed by Nevio Marasović, will be screened in the open air cinema, with Jankom Popović Volarić and Zlatko Burić in the leading roles. The film brings a story full of emotions and funny life situations to the big screen.
International jury decides on the best works from the two categories – best feature documentary and best short. Besides the six members of the jury that will choose the winners of the 19th Mediterranean Film Festival and award the Grand Prix MFF Projector and second prize MFF Projector, audience will traditionally award the third prize with their votes.
After the awards ceremony, this year's Mediterranean Film Festival will be closed with the feature film 'The Eighth Commissioner' from Croatian director Ivan Salaj. This is a comedy filmed according to Renato Baretić’s hit novel about the politician Siniša Mesnjak and his attempts to organise the elections and form the government on Trećići, the most remote Adriatic island.
Besides a large number of films, unavoidable part of the Mediterranean Festival is a relaxed atmosphere and a lot of fun, movie quizzes, workshops, rich prizes and parties at the festival square in the centre of Široki Brijeg.
